What Are Disadvantages With Ati Graphics Cards?
Q. I’ve heard constant bickering between Nvidia fans and ATI fans. It’s clear that ATI have faster cards according to comparisons, but are there problems, especially with running older games with ATI?

ATI cards give a better bang for buck in my opinion generally but the main disadvantage versus Nvidia is the Linux drivers. In short, the Linux drivers suck so running compiz comes up with a few bugs

There aren’t any disadvantages to ATI cards, but sometimes video driver compatibility issues arise. Which, in turn, can be addressed by downloading new drivers from their website.
ATI releases drivers updates every so often and new versions address issues that were reported. If you have an issue with an ATI card, report it on their website and they will either tell you how to fix it or put out an updated driver to correct your issue.
So, in short, nVidia vs ATI is a thing of preference, not of any technological basis.
I’m using a Radeon x800 and it runs Team Fortress 2 On Medium with 60-70 FPS (Good)
I had a Radeon 1950 Pro that i managed to destroy, and it ran older games such as Doom 2, Quake II, Quake III perfectly. Don’t ask how i destroyed it.
I never had any problems with Ati cards.
ati is a bit faster, but have the tendency to run hotter than nvidia
