What Brand Of Ati Graphics Cards Do You Recommend?

Q. I have never owned an ATI graphics card before, but I owned many NVidia graphics cards. What brands do you recommend? What brands should I stay away from. I found a good deal on an ASUS 4850. Would that be a good one to get?

There’s a good article here http://gpucafe.com/2009/03/modern-graphi… which might be some help to you. It covers graphics card failure rates of various brands, as well as ATI and Nvidias latest lineups. You’ll notice that ATI fares better in terms of failure rates than Nvidia.
Asus seems to make an especially good showing, and I always hear good things about their motherboards, so I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending them. Other than that, I’d recommend any vendor that offers a lifetime warranty, which in ATI’s case would be Visiontek and XFX. There’s also a good vendor comparison here http://gpucafe.com/2008/08/ati-vendor-co… which tells you some of what the vendors offer.
As for the 4850, I have one myself (Visiontek) and I’m quite happy with it, it’s a good choice of card (mine also came with a free game, GRID, so keep an eye out for free games also!). Look for the HD 4870 with 512MB ram if your looking for a bit of a step up (~20%), or the HD4870 with 1GB ram for a bit more of a step up if you play on very high resolutions (1900×1200 and up).
    Hope that helps you.

I disagree with johnny and Echoz
    ATI is great!
but with any graphics you rarely never get lag
nvidia prices are higher than ATI
    and they also can lag
    both cards are reliable
i own an ati HIS graphics radeon x1650
    it works great!
the card you want (ASUS 4850) you may be paying way too much for it
checkout newegg.com or tigerdirect for a card that works just as good or maybe even better for a lower price

ATI sucks, stick with Nvidia, it has better prices and its worth it! cuz ati sometimes lag in middle of game and that may ruin your memory, it happened with my old laptop

Stick with nVidia cards. You will have less problems and fewer headaches with them than any ATI card!
