What Virus Protection Program Is Best For Me?

Q. I’m having a issue understanding virus protection because I had a virus before and Dell tech team said I needed to reformat pc and I did. I downloaded viruus protection programs and aren’t them programs to remove the virus? Say if I downloaded a song from LimeWire what is the virus protection will do? Are the free AVG protections good or is better buying protections instead of getting a free version? Some sites I go to ads appear when closing, how can I prevent that do I need a spyware protection?

If you want free stay away from AVG. The free version has no rootkit protection. If you want free go with Avast or Avira both good free choices that will give you some protection from rootkits.
If you want paid, Norton, Avira, G Data, or Bitdefender are all good choices. If you are going to use limewire, it does not really matter which one of these you pick, Sooner or later you will get infected. So my advice is don’t use P2P file sharing.

If you can afford to pay, Pay. In the long run it’s worth it. Stay away from free especially if you are going to file share. When you file share, lime wire, frost wire, your asking for a virus or worse.
All free version AV’s have there problems. The top three downloaded AV’s are AVG, Avast, Avira. There all lacking something.
Avg, No root kit protection running in real time. Very important component to have.
Avast, No heuristic scanning in the free version. Very important to have. With out it your computer will be infected and you will not be able to remove it using Avast. It won’t detect it.
Avira. Has problems updating and problems with faults positives.
Pay for your AV. The best out there now is Kaspersky. You can research everything i have said for yourself. You will find out that I’m right.

That depends on your PC skill. If you’re new at this then I suggest that you get AVG 8.5 free.It has an e-mail scanner, link scanner, web shield and a few more needed features.A lot of people add Threatfire to AVG to boost their level of virus detection and protection, Both of these are easy programs.
You’re also going to need free anti-spyware/malware to add to your anti-virus and I suggest that you get these 3:
    1 Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition
    2 Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
    3 SUPERAnti-Spyware
There is also a free firewall you could get in case you don’t want to use the Windows firewall and it is PC Tools Firewall Plus. It has the highest rating of the free firewalls and many of the paid by testing done at Matousec.com. It comes in at 99% while another populare free firewall,Comodo Security Suite, came in at 97%. .I had PC tools and tested it at GRC’s ‘Shields Up’ and PC Flank’s testing apps and both said that PC Tools firewall totally stealthed all my ports and passed.Comodo has been known on occasion to fail.
These are available free at CNET at http://www.download.com

i’m using avast home edition . The new version has been released on their website. It s a freeware. You can register yourself on the avast website to recive the registration key . They provide timely updates (small in size, ie. In kb’s. Which s usefull for people with limited internet plans ). It s fully legal n it generates a virus recovery database to report avast about the new viruses .
To detect n delete malwares on your comp use malware bytes . Another free software . N a powerfull tool to clean your comp of malwares. I use these softwares myself .http://best-free-antivirus-software.blog…

Only single antivirus cannot help u out in tough situations ,
You need a combination of softwares to help protect ur PC .
Here is the combination that I use
Avast antivirus > Malwarebytes > Super Antispyware > Comodo Firewall .
u can use AVG or Avira FREE in place of Avast , thats ur choice
As Far as avast is concerned , u need to register for free , give them ur email address and they will send u a free licence key for avast (i.e. for 1 year ) and u are entitled to use the software for 1 year !
U can get the above on following addresses –
    Avast – http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-…
    AVG – http://www.free.avg.com/
    Avira – http://www.free-av.com/
    Malwarebytes – http://www.malwarebytes.org/
    SuperAntispyware – http://www.superantispyware.com/download…
    Comodo Firewall – http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
These apps work in combo to protect ur PC , and provide rock solid protection against viruses ,and all are free !
    Good Luck
