Why Do I Get An Error Message When Downloading Google Chrome?

Q. It says “The installer encountered error 1601: The Windows installer service could not be accessed. This could occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if windows installer in not correctly installed.”
If it is in safe mode, how do i get it out?
and…
If the Windows Installer is not correctly installed, how do i install it?

Just restart your PC and boot in normal mode. This will be usually done automatically unless it gives you some options to choose from. If it does, simply select normal mode. As for the downloading, find all the files related to Chrome that have been partially installed and uninstall them. Start afresh to install them.

You probably need to get an update to the Windows Installer. Recent version is 3.1 mabey? Open up IE or whatever browser you use and search google for “Windows Installer Download” without quotes.
IF you have trouble, you can always start up the “Windows Update” and it should detect any updates to the Windows Installer component.
Your PC probably isnt starting in safe mode although ive seen plenty of strange things.
