How to setup a peer to peer home network?

Q. I connected one end of an Ethernet cable to my laptop and the other end to a Linksys router/switch. Then I connected another Ethernet cable between the router and a desktop computer. Now when I go to control panel >> Network and Sharing Center, I see the new connection under “unidentified network”.

But now what? How can I set up a peer to peer network between the two computers so that they can share files. I don’t care about sharing an internet connection, just about sharing files.

Many Thanks.
