I expected that game to be real fun with multiplayer capabilities, but it disappointed me really. It’s against the Wii policy (collecting people together) it uses just one individual for play.

ALTHOUGH, IT’S LIKE PLAYING THE ORIGINAL BOARD CAMES, THE USER INTERFACE “bites” BIG TIME. WHEN WE’RE PLAYING BOOGLE, AND TRY HIGHLIGHTING THE WORD, MY WII REMOTE TOTALLY JUMPS ALL AROUND. I WANTED TO THROW MY REMOTE AT HASBORO. I WOULDN’T RECOMMEND THIS GAME.

When it has come down to video games, they honestly have become the latest things since sliced bread, especially with the Nintendo Wii. Since it came out in 2006, the system has really changed the way we play games at home. But, what about classic board games? Well, within the past several years, it feels like they’ve been replaced more and more today, with families spending less and less time with love and care. While Hasbro has constantly been advertising Family Game Night on television, it still is very sad that the love isn’t there for kids to have that quality time. Now, Hasbro is going interactive, and trying to bring new life into the classics from the Parker Brothers, and Milton Bradley libraries for the Wii.
Hasbro Family Game Night for the Nintendo Wii, brings a compilation of classic games to a whole new generation, to know what it is like to play delightful and entertaining board games from the past like Connect Four, and Sorry! The game features the classic Mr. Potato Head as your host, as you play new and different ways through these classic titles. There are also few different ways you can customize you gameroom, and Mr. Potato Head himself, which is alright, but the gameplay is all what should matter. There are very few titles that are available, just the traditional games like Yahtzee!, Boogle, Sorry!, Connect Four, Battleship, and Sorry! Sliders, a shuffleboard spinoff on the classic board game. The graphics are nicely detailed, but there really are a few faults with the game. The first of which is that honestly, there could’ve been more games to reintroduce the Hasbro lineup to the next generations. I really was hoping that there could’ve been great titles like Scrabble, Trouble, Life, and Monopoly that should’ve been showcased here, but that honesly doesn’t do enough for Wii gamers, and at thr price of nearly $40. That doesn’t do much in fun.
All in all, Hasbro Family Game Night could’ve been a fair buy for the Nintendo Wii, but honestly I really thought there should’ve been a lot more that needed to be added to make the feeling that families can have fun again feel like it is a sad and deep crash and burn. While Hasbro Family Game Night was a good concept, it misses the mark, and tells us that families playing together isn’t there anymore. It just has been replaced with too much work, and not anymore love.

We asked for and received this game for Christmas, thinking it would be fun for our family. Not. So. Much.
It’s almost like the game designers thought more about how to use cool graphics, motions and music, but forgot about the simple fun of the games. For example….Battleship takes twice as long to play as it does the old-fashioned way with pegs. Because there are animations for hits and misses, the game is annoyingly too long. Boggle is confusing as the whole board is not displayed; rather, it gives you a letter to start with and as you move your pointer over it a letter will appear one at a time. Sorry should be played with dice, not cards. End of story. Connect four is really the only one that is true to the spirit of the original game – I guess there’s not a whole lot that could be changed with that one! Having never played the board version of Sorry Sliders, I can’t compare it to the Wii version. I can tell you that I don’t care for it because like the Wii version of Sorry, it’s confusing. And the classic game Yahtzee? You’re much better off with the real dice and paper game because just when you think you’ve had a good roll it’s often a challenge just to score it properly!
Mr. Potato Head as the host is kind of annoying, but he is more easily ignored than the sirens in the background of Family Game Night. Sirens? Really? I’d like to know who thought that was a good idea!
In short, if you’re thinking of buying this game for your family’s game night, DON’T! Instead, take your $40 and buy the real games. Not only are they less frustrating, but they are way more fun – without the tacky host and bad background sounds.
