My first suggestion would be to try another Ethernet cable.

Go into Network connections in control panel and make sure network card is installed and enabled.

Sounds like your Ethernet connection card in your computer is not working or the drivers haven’t been installed.

You may want to go to your control panel > system > Hardware > Device manager and check to see if you can see your Ethernet card there.

If it’s working via a USB, that means you have internet and there is nothing wrong with your modem.

Could be a problem with your ethernet cable but I doubt it

If you want to find out whether it is working, rather than fix a problem that we don’t know we have yet, connect your computer to the router, open a browser and type 192.168.0.1 [return] (if you have changed the IP address of the router then type that instead)

If you get a management page up then you are connected.

If you can’t, check that the ethernet port on your computer is enabled (under network connections) and then try another cable.
