Can I back up my movies using a Western Digital 1terabyte (TB) external HD?

Q. I want to buy this Western Digital external hard drive that is 1 terabyte to back up movies I have on my computer. Is this a good idea to use this to store movies. Its 100 bucks from walmart. Also is it easy to transfer movies from my laptop to this?

It’s a good buy, and it would be great for storing your movies, but it might take a while to transfer all the movies from your laptop to the drive.

Yes and USB externals are best for backup and the only thing I use externals for. The speed lag is too much to use for anything else

Its a great buy at that price. You can store anything on externals drives. If time isn’t an issue then it will be a slow process to drag and drop or copy and paste from one drive to another. If you are fortunate to have a laptop/desktop with an “eSATA” (external SATA) port and the drive you’re getting from Walmart has an eSATA port, then its definitely a good buy as eSATA ports are x5 to x20 times faster than USB ports.
