I’m getting adsl 2 and the lady on the phone said something about a cable and im confused?
Q. The lady on the phone said the cable under our house has to be checked if its suitable for Adsl. Why is this so?

They need to check your phone line and see if it will work. I live in California and Verizon check ed the line from Florida and said it was no good. The guy at my local ISP said he would get someone from the local Verizon office to check it. It was on the very edge. It worked fine for me for years, though not at the advertised speed. But sure beat dial-up.
ADSL is subject to attenuation, and if the distance from the Telco office is too far the signal is degraded so much that ADSL will not work. Too many bridged connections will also cause attenuation of the signal and may prevent ADSL from working properly, so they do need to test the line.
