What is the best way to backup your hard drive?

Q. I want to make sure I always have a backup of my entire hard drive. I was looking at external hard drives but I don’t see the advantage of having an external vs an internal. What is the best way to go? Also what is the best backup software? I would like the backup to completely restore everything, even programs. Thanks.

there is no good program for backing up programs, If you are really serious about losing data it is best to go with a raid setup. That way if a drive fails then it just rebuilds itself. Some like to keep a copy of backups off premise (in case of fire flood etc) therefore a external drive is the best option. Which I suggest a free program like Cobian Backup or many others. The choice of the correct backup software depends on several factors including the data size, the frequency of backups
