Future Designer laptop – ROLLTOP //Diploma Thesis//

www.orkin-design.de The device of the flexible display allows a new concept in notebook design growing out of the traditional bookformed laptop into unfurling and convolving portable computer. By virtue of the OLED-Display technology and a multi touch screen the utility of a laptop computer with its weight of a mini-notebook and screen size of 13 inch easily transforms into the graphics tablet, which with its 17-inch flat screen can be also used as a primary monitor. On top of everything else all computer utilities from power supply through the holding belt to an interactive pen are integrated in Rolltop. This is really an all-in-one gadget. Beautiful. A portable laptop that’s actually portable. I especially like the power plug, it’s perfect for the classroom of the future.

@Minigosh technology is advancing but we have the problem of bendy circuitry and components, that would be the biggest leap, also, when most products deemed advanced are made, it takes a lot of work, and can be a long time before it goes into mass production, so when intel can make bendy processors, when asus can make bendy motherboards and we can have bendy RAM and other components then this idea could become reality but it would be a while after that for it to go into mass production,

@TheMegaJet can’t be done in mass production………. yet ^_^ its only a matter of time and at the rate technology is advancing, though it might not be exactly like this concept, OLED screens will certainly be produced faster then you might think.

I think the concept is genius. Touchscreen is still in its beginning as far as potential I think but flexible screens are the next logical step… and its not as far away as you might think.. Sony is one of many companies experimenting with OLED screens.. Though right now cause they are organic their life expectancy isn’t very long, I am sure they will soon overcome that barrier. Bravo!
