How do I get my Seagate Freeagent external drive to stop backing up files?

Q. I don’t keep anything on my computer’s drive. I keep it all on the external drive and save the computer’s drive for software and other things. I keep everything on my Seagate Freeagent external drive. Unfortunately, this drive keeps backing itself up in a Seagate Backup Folder on the external drive, thereby killing all the space with needless duplicates that are hard to delete. I want it to stop backing itself up. Any advice is appreciated.

There has to be a seagate free-agent application installed on your PC somewhere. Uninstall it via the add-remove programs (programs and features on Vista or 7).

I have yet to see an external hard drive that won’t work if its included “bloatware” is uninstalled.

If you want the app, then there should be a management tool (try looking in the icon tray) with which you can manage how it does its backups.

The first time you use the external drive there is a software automatically installed called Seagate manager (something like that, i don’t remember exactly). Find that software in your computer (there should be as the backup has been set) and check the settings out. There is a specific setting for you to cease backing up files. ( I possess a 1TB Sseagate Freeagent:))
