Q&A: My monitor is a widescreen, and pictures always look stretched?

DarkAngel asks
I have a 19″ widescreen monitor, correctly set on the right resolution. However, when i put a picture up as wallpaper on my desktop it always looks really stretched. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Windows stretches images to fit the desktop. Open your picture in an image editing application (such as Gimp) and crop / resize the picture to match the monitor resolution. Save a copy and use that for your wallpaper.

I also have a 19″ widescreen and this is what I do. My monitor is 1440×900. Most digital cameras shoot in 4:3 aspect ratio, so you have to crop and resize the picture to the right aspect ratio.

When taking the picture set it so it takes the picture at the highest resolution possible (1680×1050 or 1900×1050 or something like that) This will make the pictures larger and when taking them it will use qiute a bit more space on your digital camera, how ever the advantage is that it will fit your computer screen alot better and be clearer and will not have to be stretched to fit your desktop computer screen.

    Hope This Helps! :D
