What is the best ratio for an LCD TV?
catcherdavis asks,
I’m looking at buying myself an LCD TV and the ones i’ve been looking at all have different ratios. I’m just wondering which ratio is the best to get. Do I want a smaller ratio (ie 100:1) or a larger (100,000:1)
The tv will mainly be used for watching dvd’s and playing xbox.

larger, but understand the numbers don’t mean what you think. All TV makers cheat for a higher number so you can’t compared different brands.
The only thing you can do is compare within the brand. For example, a samsung LCD that states 50k will have a higher contrast ratio than a cheaper samsung that claims 10k.
However, it means nothing comparing to Vizio or Sharp because there is no clear standard.
So go for the highest you can afford within the brand. I’d say plasma is better for a higher real world contrast ratio.. but you are going to be gaming so stick to LCD.
