What multifunction printer should I buy?

jawjar asks,
I own a small business and need a new multifunction printer. It has been suggested that I buy a HP laser printer at 0 (AUD) but the salesman has told me that it will only last about two years, as they all do. Is it worth spending more when it won’t last any longer than the cheap ones? What brands do you like?

$ 900.00 is quite a bit of money to spend on a printer.

Whatever brand of printer you buy, I would definately stay away from Dell and / or Lexmark; Dell’s are expensive to operate [Inkjet Cartridges], & most, if now all, Lexmark’s are total junk.

    * A little known secret today: Lexmark is the actual maker / manufacturer of Dell printers; In my opinion, this was a disasterous decision by Dell – Dell has worked very hard to bring their total sales closer to HP – Lexmark will surely drag them down.

Laser vs. Inkjet – I would go with Laser; any more, prices are pretty close to each other; you should be able to buy an intermediate Laser Printer for $200.00 – $300.00.

If you do not do a lot of printing, you might consider a HP All-In-One; Wal-Mart is selling the HP DeskJet F4140 All-In-One [Printer / Scanner / Photocopier] for $ 78.53; includes one Black & one Tri-Color Inkjet Cartridge(s). One drawback here – these are small cartridges – each hold only 05 ml of ink.

    ~ 10 months ago, I bought a HP Deskjet F-340 All-In-One; costs ~ $ 83.00, & overall, has done a pretty good gob. It also uses the small Inkjet Cartridges, & this is kind of a pain – The Black HP-21 costs ~ $15.00, & the Tri-Color HP-22 costs ~ $18.00.

If you do buy a Inkjet printer, you might pay attention to the ink capacities of the cartridges – the more, the better.

    Good Luck,
