Authenticating Google Account with Website Script (Analytics) Error | Fixed

Every so often we come across a user facing an error similar to this:

The page you have requested cannot be displayed. Another site was requesting access to your Google Account, but sent a malformed request. Please contact the site that you were trying to use when you received this message to inform them of the error. A detailed error message follows:

The site “http://mydomain.com” has not been registered.

We typically experience this when we are trying to authenticate a Google Analytics plugin: Google Analyticator, but users have also confirmed the same issue with a number of scripts and various API accessed google products.

After alot of frustration we have a fix.

  1. Head to –  https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageDomains (while logged in)
  2. Type in domain you are trying to auth and click add
  3. click Manage yourdomain.com
  4. agree to terms and services
  5. type in http://www.yourdomain.com
  6. type in description of site or title
  7. click save
  8. click return

You should be able to then authenticate with your google account via the troublesome script and have no probelms at all!

Note: some users have advised they needed to supply the full wordpress admin address (http://www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin)

Let us know if you have any problems with the steps, and the script you are having issues with.
