Trying to launch Outlook and getting the error message Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. Well here’s a nice and simple breakdown of what happened, and how to fix it.
This error is caused by a software corruption, of one or more outlook components – its been known to affect outlook 2003, XP, 2007. Typically its the navpane component that suffers corruption. Generally its not caused by anything you have done, perhaps an unclean exit, or addon has messed with a file.
I found that an outlook repair did not really make any change to the problem. Others online suggested a system restore – but that is just overkill.
Lucky outlook can be called with various parameters, which includes a function to reset the navpane interface! so onto the fix!
The simple fix to the error Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window.
- Select Start > Run (or winkey +r shortcut keys)
- Issue the command Outlook.exe /resetnavpane
- Click OK
You should find outlook open without issue! How easy was that!
I’m going to try and get a list of many of the useful outlook starting parameters together for reference.
Thank you so much for your advice, I tried it (after two weeks of no Outlook!) and my Outlook as been restored, thank you!
LEGEND!! Thanks for this quick and easy fix, which is explained so simply and to the point!!
CHEERS!
